"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,” - Philippians 2:10 NLT

The grand coronation of a king or queen is a sight to behold. When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, the ceremony was filled with extraordinary pomp and circumstance. Westminster Abbey overflowed with dignitaries, heads of state, and esteemed guests from around the world. Trumpets blared, robes of crimson and gold shimmered in the light, and the crown, encrusted with jewels, was reverently placed upon her head. The people who gathered outside cheered wildly as the new queen emerged, waving to her subjects. It was a moment of unity, tradition, and celebration for an earthly monarch.

Now imagine a moment far greater than any royal coronation. One day, all the pomp and honor we give to earthly kings and queens will pale in comparison to what Jesus will receive. Philippians 2:10 tells us:

"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth." – Philippians 2:10 (NLT)

A day is coming when every person who has ever lived will bow before Jesus. For those who know Him as Savior, this will be a moment of overwhelming joy and worship, as we kneel before our King. For those who have rejected Him, it will be a moment of fearful recognition, as they bow before their Judge.

Unlike the honor given to earthly monarchs, which fades over time, the honor given to Jesus will endure forever. On that day, every human being, whether alive, in heaven, or under the earth, will see Jesus for who He truly is: the King of kings and Lord of lords. His glory and authority will be undeniable.

For Christians, this promise fills us with hope and anticipation. It reminds us that Jesus will finally receive the praise and honor He deserves. But for those who do not know Him, it will be a day of great regret.

What kind of day will it be for you?

The good news is that we don’t have to wait until that day to bow before Jesus. We can bow today, confessing Him as our Lord and Savior, and live in joyful worship of the King who gave everything for us.

HIGHLIGHTED QUOTE:

“For Christians, that will be a day of great joy. For all else, that will be a day of great dread.”

TIP OF THE DAY:

Take time today to intentionally bow in worship to Jesus. Whether through prayer, quiet reflection, or singing a hymn, acknowledge Him as your Lord and Savior. Let this act of worship fill your heart with hope as you think about the day when you will see Him face to face.

TALKING TO GOD:

Father in heaven, I humbly bow before You, confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord. Thank You for the grace that allows me to approach You as my Savior and not my Judge. Help me to live each day in joyful worship, giving Christ the honor and praise He deserves. Prepare my heart for the day when I will see Him face to face, and may my life reflect His glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PAUSE AND REFLECT:

  1. When you think about bowing before Jesus, does it stir joy, fear, or something else? Why?
  2. How can you live today in a way that reflects your worship and submission to Christ as Lord?
  3. Are there areas in your life where you’ve resisted acknowledging Jesus as Lord? What steps can you take to surrender those to Him?
