8 Prayers to Glorify God

“I just want to give all the glory to God.” We’ve all heard athletes and artists on T.V. who have made this statement. After winning a championship, or a Grammy, they point it all back to God. Their words are correct but what does that mean? At the end of the day, we are either living for God’s glory or for our glory. We are either building God’s kingdom or our own kingdom. Making Jesus famous or living to make ourselves famous. Our goal as Christians should be to make Jesus famous. Living for God’s glory simply means living for Jesus and inviting Jesus into every area of our lives. This means that our aim should be to please God in all we say and do. It is this posture and attitude that brings God glory.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. – Colossians 3:23

Heavenly Father, help me be mindful that I will ultimately give an account for my life to you, not to my family, boss, or friends. I work for you. My goal is to please you and you alone. Whether at home, in sports, or when I am out and about, I may be mindful of pleasing you. You deserve my very best, and I desire to give you my all. Not just a portion of my life, but my whole life. Father, you are not someone I just add to my life. You are my life. To live for your glory is my highest aim. So help me, Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant. – Galatians 1:10

Lord, when the temptation comes to please people, instead of you, give me the strength to resist. Please remind me that my goal as a Christian-which is to please you and bring you glory. Strip me of my pride and help me lean on you for strength. May I trust in your ability, not my talents and strengths. When I win your approval, I win for the kingdom. With your help, I believe I can live to please you and not give in to people’s pleasing. Be glorified through my decisions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. – Mathew 6:33

Lord, you’ve called me to seek your kingdom above all else. To make knowing you a priority. As I spend time with you in prayer, reveal areas in my life that need to be fully submitted to you. Help me understand that pursuing your kingdom first means giving you my best in everything. This includes how I handle my money, treat my neighbors, and honor those you have placed in my life. As I pursue righteousness, I am thankful for your son Jesus, who spilled his blood for me. It is because of the sacrifice of your son that I am righteous. I am aware that living for your glory means actively pursuing holiness. Strengthen me to walk in purity. Teach me to live in righteousness with my words, thoughts, and actions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that living for your glory means allowing your word to shape how I live. May I authorize you to transform my mind. Reveal any incorrect thinking patterns and help me to replace them with the truth of your word. My desire is to bring you glory in the way that I think. I am aware that not every thought comes from you. Teach me to destroy any beliefs and mindsets that are against your word. May I be on guard against the schemes of the enemy. Every lie that the enemy throws at me is one I lay at your feet. I refuse to believe the lies of the enemy. I refuse to think of voices from my past that do not line up with your word. I choose to accept your truth. Wash me by the power of your word for your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. – John 13:35

Heavenly Father, you have called me to model a life of love to those around me. Teach me to love my fellow believers, neighbors, coworkers, and those you have brought into my sphere of influence. I realize I have been uniquely wired and placed where I live and work. Teach me to love well. You are my perfect example of walking in love. You sent your son to die on the cross for me. Teach me to be sacrificial in how I treat and love those around me. This brings you glory, and my heart’s desire is to bring you the recognition you deserve. I pray the world will see your love in me. I long to bring you glory through the way I treat each person. Help me to see everyone as humans made in your image. And help me extend the love that’s been extended to me through your son Jesus. It’s in Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. – Mathew 22:37

Heavenly Father, my greatest calling is to love you. This ultimately brings you glory. Teach me to love you with my whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. This includes what I fill my mind with, watch, and listen to. May I bring you glory by intentionally filling my mind with truth. I also pray for the strength to submit my emotions to you. On days when I feel angry and anxious, teach me to bring my feelings into your presence. My desire is to have an honest, raw relationship with you. May my prayers be brutally honest. I am grateful for you do not despise a real prayer life. And lastly, teach me to love you with all my strength. Even when my power fails, help me commit to prayer, read your word, and attend church. When I am weary, renew my strength. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

So whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.  1 Corinthians 10:31

Heavenly Father, I desire to bring you glory in all I do. This includes my family life, school, business, sports, and every area I am involved in. Help me be honest about what is competing with you in my heart. Give me the strength to let go of All I am holding onto tightly. Burn away my idols. Be the lover of my soul, not activities, people, and places. When I eat and drink, may I acknowledge that every perfect gift is from you. Be glorified through my gratitude. Everything I have comes from you. You’ve given me the strength to work, enjoy food, and love those around me. Be glorified in these areas of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

For I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. – Philippians 4:11-13

Heavenly Father, through the ups and downs of life, teach me to live out of a place of gratitude, not an entitlement. May I be content with what I have, no matter the season I walk through. To have you is to have enough. Be my ultimate satisfaction and my source of joy. Be glorified through my gratitude. Most importantly, I thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for me. I am forever grateful for the gift of eternal life because of your son. It’s in your name, I pray. Amen.
