Jeanice Lee talks to Lori Masseur, Director of Early Learning at Read on Arizona. Read on Arizona is the state’s early literacy collective impact model initiative. Masseur says they have a very strategic focus on school readiness and third grade reading. They do this by paying attention to the language and literacy skills of children from birth through third grade. Masseur says chronic absences don’t allow children to reap the benefits of effective instructive practices that the teachers deliver in the classroom, and they are more than likely to not graduate on time, and it may impact their life economically.
