8 Prayers for Overcoming Insecurity

Insecurity is a familiar feeling most of us experience in our lifetime. Whether it’s insecurity about our social status or our appearance, this feeling can be crippling and debilitating. We know God does not want us to live here, denying ourselves the ability to live our lives for Him and His glory. We hope these 8 prayers for overcoming insecurity will encourage you and help you overcome insecurity wherever you are on this journey.

1. Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant. – Galatians 1:10 NLT

Lord, I admit my heart is not always in the right place. I often seek the approval of others over the approval of You, and that leaves me feeling insecure. Help me to always focus on being obedient and pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know Him. – 1 John 3:1 NLT

Father, I’m so grateful to be one of Your children. Help me to remember this promise whenever I feel insecure about my identity. Thank You for loving me no matter what and calling me Your own. I’m thankful to belong to Your family even when I’m not sure where I belong. So guide me to turn to Your presence whenever I’m feeling this way. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.

3. Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. – Ephesians 1:4 NLT

Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me. Your love for me never diminishes and that comforts me as I navigate through these feelings of insecurity. The fact that You loved me even before You made the world fills me with so much gratitude. Humble my heart as I seek to be holy before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

4. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. – 1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT

Jesus, I often forget where my identity lies. Help me to remember that You have cleansed me of all my sins and I am made right with God through You. When I forget this promise and am struggling with insecurity, help me to set my gaze on You and what You’ve done for me. In Your name, amen.

5. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. – Psalm 139:13-14 NLT

Lord God, You are intentional in how You’ve formed who I am, and I can’t wrap my mind around the fullness of Your workmanship. I’m so grateful You delicately created me and call me wonderful! Whenever I’m struggling with insecurity in this life and who I was created to be, may I cling to this truth. Amen.

6. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. – Hebrews 6:19 NLT

Lord, You are a trustworthy God. You’re worthy of my worship and praise, especially as I go through this season of doubt in my identity. You’re an anchor for my soul in every circumstance. Help me to cling to this promise through this time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

7. Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. – Psalm 62:5-6 NLT

God, I know that under Your authority, I will not be shaken. Even though I’m feeling insecure, You are constant and steady through it all and You never will change or fail me. Help me to lean on You as my rock as I work through these feelings of doubt. In the name of Your Son, amen.

8. But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 NLT

Lord, help me to have Your heart towards myself and others. It’s easy to be critical of how I compare to others, but You look at my heart. Humble my heart as I seek to see others as You see me. I pray all these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
