Peter Kaye speaks with Mary Scharf of the Malone Chamber of Commerce about business in the North Country. Scharf reflects on the town’s rich history as being the “star of the north” due to the confluence of railroads and discusses how the economy has changed to being heavily reliant on tourism. Sharf gives guidance to start up businesses and emphasizes the importance of knowing not only your number of potential customers, but where they are coming from. She proudly speaks of the historic district of Main Street in Malone and shares her dream for it becoming the shining star of the north once again.
