Posted on Sunday, March 9, 2025 by Jack Church

Jack Church talks with Nicole Williams, CEO for the Central Alabama Food Bank in Birmingham. Williams says the Food Bank serves a 12 county area in Central Alabama representing approximately 29% of state's population. She says food insecurity is on the rise in Central Alabama due to a number of economic factors ranging from job loss to rising fuel and housing costs. She also said food insecurity among seniors in Alabama now ranks among the top ten in the nation. While demand is increasing, Williams says the Food Bank is constantly looking at ways to keep up and is set to break ground on a new, larger storage facility.
