TobyMac asserts the church is more than the four walls of a building on his latest single, “a lil Church (nobody’s too lost).” He contends Church (with a capital ‘C’) looks more like the people who care about you than it does wooden pews and dusty hymnals. Encouraging listeners to be the hands and feet of Jesus, “a lil Church” reaches out to those who have experienced church hurt or simply those who need a gentle reminder that no mistake ever disqualifies you from God’s grace.
“The line I love in that song is ‘if nobody’s too lost to get found, I could use a lil Church right now.’ I mean, I believe that,” Toby tells K-LOVE DJ Lauree during a recent visit to the K-LOVE Studios. “That’s the line of the record, to me. Is there more of a Christ message than that? That nobody’s too lost? What you’ve done, who you’ve hurt, how bad you’ve been hurt…nobody’s too lost to be found by the love of Jesus.”
The song previews TobyMac’s highly anticipated ninth studio album, “Heaven On My Mind,” which drops Mar. 7, 2025, and also features multi-week chart-topper “Nothin’ Sweeter.” The project follows 2022’s career-defining set, “Life After Death,” which racked up a rare five No. 1 hits, including the K-LOVE Fan Award-winning Song of the Year, “Faithfully.”
Toby and his band started playing “a lil Church” on tour long before he ever released a recording of the Gospel-tinged selection. Now, concertgoers have an official souvenir of the track. It’s sure to be a part of his setlist as the hitmaker headlines this year’s annual installment of “Hits Deep” with 30-plus dates running through March. Additionally, the award winner will lead two consecutive nights at the historic Beacon Theatre in August when “K-LOVE Live in New York” makes its Big Apple debut.
