The most ambitious trek of her career thus far, the “Lauren Daigle World Tour” kicked off with five dates in Australia and New Zealand before heading stateside in early 2020. After only 12 concerts, however, the tour was abruptly shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, most dates were able to be rescheduled for Fall 2021—including the Lexington stop.

Backed by a 12-piece band that included three backup singers, two drum kits and a horn section, Daigle took the stage adorned in a long yellow robe dotted with pink hearts and an assortment of necklaces and bracelets. The songstress began her set with soulful versions of “O’Lord” and “Still Rolling Stones,” while a sea of neon lights danced across the audience in syncopated rhythm, courtesy of light bracelets worn by each attendee. As Daigle shared, she first saw the innovative production element executed at a Taylor Swift show at the very same venue six years ago, so it seemed only fitting that Rupp Arena would be the first stop on her global outing to utilize the technology.

“My hope for the show is just genuinely that you feel the love of God, that you feel the Hope of the World coming and sitting with you in whatever environment that you’re in and that tonight’s just a lot of fun,” Daigle remarks of the tour stop and the subsequent livestream. “If there is anything that I have seen in the course of this tour, it is God’s redemption. I promise, He is the God of hope. He is the way, the truth, the life. And there’s something so captivating about seeing Him step into the moment you’re experiencing.”

Throughout nearly two hours of music, the eight-time K-LOVE Fan Award winner took concertgoers on a journey that ebbed and flowed through hits from both her debut, How Can It Be, and 2018’s landmark recording, Look Up Child, including the latter’s reggae-influenced title-cut, the emotive “Rescue” and a dreamy arrangement of early favorite “Trust In You.” With every selection tightly choreographed—down to the colorful lighting and the moves of Daigle’s trio of background vocalists (one of whom was former teen CCM sensation Rachael Lampa)—the Platinum-selling artist’s Louisiana roots shone brightly, as she reveled in a number of lingering brass solos and regaled the audience with stories of growing up in “the swamp.”

Childhood photos and rainbow-colored confetti peppered a high-energy performance of “Come Back Home,” her recent Petey Martin collaboration that gives a subtle nod to the Prodigal Son story. Afterwards, the 30-year-old brought fans back down to a moment of worship with a beautiful rendition of Keith Green’s “Oh Lord, You’re Beautiful,” which she introduced with a vulnerable speech about what she learned during her extended time off the road.

One of the evening’s most poignant moments came in the form of “Rebel Heart,” a sleeper hit on Look Up Child. With only a piano for accompaniment, Daigle sat on a stool in front of the stage’s large, translucent curtain, performing the song for the first time on the tour that night. She followed the confessional track with recent hit “Hold On To Me,” complete with a spruced-up outro, resplendent with brass.

After treating the audience to a cover of Curtis Mayfield’s “Move On Up,” Daigle invited married duo The War and Treaty—the tour’s opening act—back on stage for a playful rendition of ’60s classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

The nearly 20-song set concluded with Daigle’s runaway juggernaut, “You Say.” Introed by real-life stories from listeners, revealing the far-reaching impact of the song and culminating in one of the evening’s most powerful, poetic moments, the smash was delivered in true Daigle fashion: flawless and resolute. She cleverly folded in the old Gaither hymn, “Something Beautiful,” before reprising the chorus of “You Say,” which gave way to the capacity crowd singing the truth of every word at the top of their lungs.

Her inaugural world tour emphasizes the obvious: Daigle is a world-class vocalist. In only six short years, she’s become an arena headliner—a feat that takes many artists decades to achieve. Yet, in spite of all the acclaim, Daigle says it’s the power of a song that continues to steal the spotlight each night.

“You can see how the songs interact with each person individually—like God did it for them; God did it for them—and now it’s this collective, communal experience,” she shares. “That’s really beautiful.”
