Emerging artist Seph Schlueter can’t adequately calculate the favor he’s received from God on “Counting My Blessings,” his debut single. “One, two, three, up to infinity. I’d run out of numbers before I could thank You for everything,” he sings.
“I wrote [this] song with Jonathan Gamble and Jordan Sapp about how the things we prayed for years ago, we get to live in now. And how easy it is to get caught up in looking ahead to the future that we forget to give thanks for the blessings we have right now,” the newcomer observes of the message behind his introductory track. “Being mindful of your blessings is one of the best ways I know to change your mindset, attitude and lifestyle. I’ve tried to make a habit out of spending time every day giving thanks.”
Gratitude is at the forefront of Schlueter’s new single, and one of the many things he’s thankful for is his time spent on the mission field. Schlueter (pronounced “shleeter”) spent years as a missionary before writing a song about the elusive sum of God’s blessings. Additionally, while originally honing his craft as an independent act, he had the opportunity to open for artists like Phil Wickham and Natalie Grant before he signed with a major label and released his introductory radio offering, which has literally made its way around the globe becoming a viral sensation in Brazil, where it was even recorded by another artist in Portuguese.
Since first unveiling his studio version of the lead single in 2023, Schlueter has also dropped an acoustic rendering of the song, as well as a fresh recording that features Matt Maher. The urgent guitar/piano-led selection attempts to tally the riches God showers upon His children. Yet, Schlueter quickly realizes his efforts are futile, because the faithfulness of God exceeds all measure. Still, “Counting My Blessings” invites listeners to reflect on the incredible ways our Heavenly Father is involved in even the smallest details of our lives.
In addition to embarking on this new journey of solo artistry, the Ohio-based artist is also a member of Damascus Worship, with whom he serves as a worship director.
