The song begins as a simple ballad, accompanied by sparse piano and acoustic guitar, before building into an arena-worthy refrain. “God of Revival” was penned by Brian and fellow singer/songwriter Phil Wickham. Incidentally, the duo also co-wrote Wickham’s Dove Award-winning song, “Living Hope.”
“ ‘God of Revival’ is one of my very favorite songs that I’ve ever been a part of. When Brian started singing this chorus melody during a soundcheck for a worship night we were leading together, I knew there was something special there,” Wickham recalls. “Some songs feel like a chase, others feel like a gift. This song is a gift. What a prayer to be prayed for this world right now.”

On “God of Revival,” together, the Johnsons petition God for a divine awakening and for His miraculous healing and hope to be poured out on our families, cities, and nations. Over and over again, they declare, “The darkest night—You can light it up.”
