Matthew West is taking it to the streets and boldly declaring he’s a child of God on his latest single, “Unashamed.” West wrote the upbeat pop anthem with longtime collaborator AJ Pruis and shouts it from the rooftops (literally!) in downtown Nashville in the song’s music video.
“Being unashamed about my faith really comes from being excited to share with the world what God has done in my life,” West offers. “I know what He rescued me from. I know how lost I’d be without Him. And it’s from that place of gratitude that I find a desire to tell anyone who can hear me that Jesus loves you!”
The unabashed declaration references several biblical stories where heroes of the faith were unashamed to stand up for what they believed in. West mentions Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego — the three Hebrew boys who were thrown into a fiery furnace after refusing to bow down to the king of the day. He also honors the immense courage Daniel exhibited when he defied the law and prayed to his God. As punishment, he was locked inside a den of hungry lions.

“The thing I love about those two stories,” West asserts, “is they stood up for their faith, and God stood up for them.”
“Unashamed” arrives on the heels of West’s No. 1 hit, “Don’t Stop Praying,” which ignited a prayer movement beyond the chart-topping original and serves as the namesake for his 2024 album that features both tracks, alongside duets with Anne Wilson, Stephen McWhirter and more.
