55th Annual Dove Awards Nominees

Brandon Lake just made history. With 16 nods, the South Carolina native garnered the most GMA Dove Award nominations ever earned by an artist in a single year as contenders for the 55th annual installment were announced publicly across 37 categories by this year’s host, Tauren Wells. While Lake will vie in major brackets like Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, half of his nominations honor his songwriting contributions to major hits, including “Praise,” “Trust In God” and “This Is Our God” — all nominated for Song of the Year alongside Lake’s “Praise You Anywhere.” Moreover, the five-time K-LOVE Fan Award winner is also up for Songwriter of the Year (Artist).

“Thank you, GMA, I cannot wait for this year’s Dove Awards. That’s absolutely crazy. I mean, I’m literally mind-blown. So honored,” an emotional, nearly speechless Lake told Wells, who FaceTimed him to share the news. “I love what I get to do… It’s an honor to be a part of songs that are changing people’s lives — that’s what it’s all about — and lifting up the name of Jesus. I’m grateful.”

As evidenced by Lake’s record-breaking title, songwriters dominate this year’s GMA Dove Awards leaderboard with Chris Brown (Elevation Worship) and Chandler Moore each tallying 10 nods, Phil Wickham and Cody Carnes respectively accruing eight nominations and Pat Barrett notching honors in five categories.

Elsewhere, the global success of “Unsung Hero” propels for KING + COUNTRY’s four nominations, with the movie — and subsequently the duo — also receiving a fifth nod for Feature Film of the Year. Meanwhile, CAIN’s latest effort, “Jesus Music,” garners the trio four nominations, as well as a bonus nod in the Television Series of the Year bracket for their acclaimed TBN+ reality series, “Chasing CAIN.”

Celebrated collective Elevation Worship scores an impressive nine nominations, including recognition for the group’s first-ever Christmas project, “Echo The Angels.” Decorated veteran CeCe Winans tallies five nods, encompassing a nomination for “That’s My King,” up for Gospel Worship Recorded Song of the Year; and Naomi Raine also receives five nods for a combination of both her solo work and her contributions to Maverick City Music. Meanwhile, Anne Wilson picks up four nominations courtesy of her sophomore LP, “REBEL,” whose intentional country sound secured the female vocalist a spot in the Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year bracket. Additionally, 12-time GMA Dove Award winner Lauren Daigle earns three nominations on the strength of her latest self-titled collection, recognized in the Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year category.

Of special interest is the fresh guard of talent who make the short list for 2024’s New Artist of the Year: Charity Gayle, Forrest Frank, Josiah Queen, Seph Schlueter and Terrian. Most notably, Gayle, Frank and Queen are all independent acts. Furthermore, the debut radio singles from Frank (“Good Day”), Queen (“The Prodigal”) and Schlueter (“Counting My Blessings”) are also nominated for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year alongside Wilson’s “Strong” and CAIN’s “Any More.”

With Wells returning for the second consecutive year as host, the 55th Annual GMA Dove Awards will be held Oct. 1, 2024, at Nashville’s Allen Arena and will air exclusively on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and TBN+ on Oct. 4, 2024, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET.
