Three-time K-LOVE Fan Award winner Zach Williams knows what it’s like to hear the right song at the right time. Before becoming a leading singer and songwriter in Christian music, Williams was traveling the globe as the frontman for a secular rock band. Caught up in a cycle of drugs and alcohol, Williams’ life was spiraling out of control.
En route to a tour stop in Spain, his band’s bus driver was scanning the radio dial and landed on a tune Williams recognized as a song about Jesus. The song was “Redeemed” by Big Daddy Weave, and it quite literally changed the “Less Like Me” singer’s life.
Now, he’s writing songs God is using to transform other people’s lives. And when he’s invited to be a part of experiences like the K-LOVE Fan Awards, he can hardly believe the places music has taken him.
“I’m like a kid in a candy store when I’m backstage and seeing all these artists,” Williams says of being backstage at the Grand Ole Opry House for the Fan Awards. “It’s like, man, I’ve been listening to their music for a long time, and I never thought I’d be in the same room or the same category with some of these people. It’s pretty crazy.”

Williams won his first K-LOVE Fan Award back in 2017 when fans named “Chain Breaker” the “Breakout Single of the Year.” In 2021, in addition to winning “Male Artist of the Year,” Williams also took home the ‘K’ for “Song of the Year,” honoring his acclaimed duet with Dolly Parton, “There Was Jesus.” The fact that fans vote for this award makes it that much more special.
“It’s always great when you have your peers in the music industry recognize what you’re doing, but for me, when fans do it, they’re the ones that keep me going. They’re the ones coming to the shows and listening to the music,” the six-time GMA Dove Award winner says. “It means the world when somebody thinks enough about your music to take the time to vote for the award. Honestly, I never imagined being able to do anything like this, so any time I have somebody tell me that I’m up for an award, I’m just grateful.”
