Worship Song of the Year: Brandon Lake

Brandon Lake notched his second consecutive Worship Song of the Year win at the 11th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards when voters selected “Praise You Anywhere” as their 2024 pick. He previously accrued a win in this category last year for global anthem “Gratitude.”

Jon Reddick and David Leonard were on hand to present the award to Lake, who also co-hosted the star-studded ceremony with Sadie Robertson Huff. Taking the mic, the South Carolina native acknowledged Leonard’s investment in him both personally and professionally, revealing the “Every Hour” singer had heard his first independent record and invited him to his studio to help him learn the ropes.

Calling Leonard a “3 a.m. friend,” Lake turned his attention to the story behind “Praise You Anywhere,” explaining he had initially submitted more than 50 songs to his label for his most recent record, “Coat of Many Colors.” “Praise You Anywhere” was the only contender that was incomplete. His label team, however, encouraged the singer/songwriter to finish it, adding they thought it could be his next big hit.

They were right. Upon release, “Praise You Anywhere” broke records and catapulted to No. 1 across multiple Christian charts. Lake performed a portion of the expansive original during a makeshift writers round on-stage at this year’s K-LOVE Fan Awards, where he curated a circle of prolific writers, who have each contributed to his career in some way. During a stripped-down segment that featured snippets of each of their respective hits, Lake was accompanied by Kristian Stanfill, who became his first official co-write; Naomi Raine, with whom he helped launch an “underground movement” known as Maverick City Music; frequent collaborator Chris Brown (Elevation Worship); and longtime friend and tourmate Phil Wickham.

In addition to assuming co-hosting duties and assembling an acoustic set with friends, Lake also performed a blazing version of “Count ‘Em” at the 2024 K-LOVE Fan Awards, where he led artist nominations with a total of four nods.

While “Praise You Anywhere” garnered Worship Song of the Year honors, fans also named Lake Male Artist of the Year, bringing his career K-LOVE Fan Awards tally up to five.
