“We wrote the song ‘All Things New’ as a prayer over my dad as he was dealing with pulmonary fibrosis. Little did I know, that would be the last song I wrote that my dad would get to hear this side of heaven,” shares Big Daddy Weave lead singer Mike Weaver, who penned the poignant ballad with David Leonard. “I believe the moment he took his last breath here was just the beginning of how real this song is for him now, in the very presence of Jesus. We can say in faith, ‘From the ashes, from the dust, I will rise up,’ because of Jesus, who makes all things new.”

Weaver’s father passed away on Christmas Day in 2017. Just recently, he lost his mother to cancer. Prior to these personal losses, his brother, Jay—Big Daddy Weave’s longtime bass player—experienced unexpected suffering when a life-threatening infection in his body resulted in the amputation of both feet.

Following an extensive recovery, Jay was eventually able to rejoin his bandmates on tour, playing bass from a wheelchair. A current infection, however, has once again forced him to remain off the road indefinitely. Elsewhere in the group, members Jeremy Redmon, Joe Shirk and Brian Beihl have endured their own hardships. The five men’s struggles, both individually and collectively, are creatively showcased in the band’s official music video for “All Things New.” Both the video and the song itself describe how God is able to redeem the broken chapters of our stories.

The stirring track lends its name to Big Daddy Weave’s fall tour, which features direct support from “My Jesus” singer Anne Wilson.
