This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Jeremiah 6:16 NLT
Have you ever gotten lost but didn’t want to ask for directions?
At the end of my first semester in college a friend of mine asked me if I would drive her to the airport to catch a flight back home for Christmas. So me, my roommate, and a girl I was interested in dating at the time hopped in my car and dropped our friend off at the airport.
Now I should mention that I’m pretty directionally challenged. Back then, when I needed to go someplace I didn’t normally go to, I would print up directions from MapQuest (this was in the days before smartphones and GPS). But since I was with some friends and a girl I liked, and I didn’t want to look like a dork, I decided to wing it. That was a big mistake.
We made it to the airport safely, but I got lost on the way back at night. After taking several wrong turns I decided to pull over at a gas station in the middle of nowhere and ask for directions. A drive that should have only taken me an hour took twice that because I was too proud to ask for help.
It’s common for us to think we can navigate the crossroads of life on our own. But the truth is when we’re at a crossroads, whether it’s deciding who to date, which school to attend, what major to focus on, which job to take, how to raise our kids, etc. we need a guide who knows the road ahead to give us directions.
When you’re at a Crossroads in life, ask God which direction you should take.
The Bible says in James 1:5, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking”. God wants to give us guidance for our life. If we humbly ask for His direction and commit to following Him in the power of the Holy Spirit, He will provide us with the instructions we need, one step at a time.
If you’re at a crossroads right now, pray this prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m at a crossroads and I don’t know what to do about ____________. Please help me to desire Your will for this area of my life, to discover it, and to do it in a way that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
