“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight
in honoring each other.” – Romans 12:10 (NLT)
I once had a manager (I’ll call him Steven) who was emotionally beaten down by a series of unfortunate events that occurred all at once in his life. It was all weighing hard on him, which ended up negatively affecting the culture of our department and eventually our business. One day as I was praying for Steven before work, the Lord put it on my heart to simply honor him. So, each day I began to acknowledge one thing about him that was honorable, and after a few weeks of this new daily routine, his countenance and outlook on this difficult season changed from disheartened to feeling hopeful. I was blown away by the power of honor!
I’m sure you have people in your life who are bearing the weight of various challenges as well. Just as the Lord prompted me to honor Steven, Romans 12:10 calls us to “love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other.” This isn’t just a good suggestion but a profound invitation. When you intentionally focus on acknowledging the praiseworthy qualities in those around you, you become a conduit for positive encouragement and change.
God’s way of honor can be a great beacon of light in the darkness of someone’s struggles. As you and I follow the example set by Jesus, who always looked for ways to honor and serve others, we embody His love which has a powerful way of lifting others up amid their despair.
May you seize the opportunity to lift the spirits of those facing adversity, infusing hope and strength through the simple yet profound act of honoring one another. I pray that you may take great delight in following Jesus and applying His wisdom to build a culture of love, compassion and restoration as you implement the superpower of honor.
“When you intentionally focus on acknowledging the praiseworthy qualities in those around you, you become a conduit for positive encouragement and change.”

Prayer
Father, empower me to practice honor. Help me see the praiseworthy qualities in others and create a culture of love and compassion. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
