Have you ever felt like everything, and everyone is against you? Although it can be extremely tempting to see ourselves as victims when difficult things happen to us, we have a choice. We can embrace a victim mindset or decide to go the other way and remind ourselves that what happens to us doesn’t determine the final outcome. While it’s not always simple, we want to reassure you that if you can reject the temptation to label yourself as a victim, you’ll be setting yourself up for real victory over your circumstance. Here are eight prayers to assist you in abandoning a victim mentality.
1. For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will hold you up with their hands, so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. – Psalm 91:11-12 NLT
Lord, when life presents difficulties, I feel overwhelmed and defeated. Help me remember Your angels have an assignment to protect me wherever I go. May I remember Your promise despite the problems I face day to day and remind me I am never truly alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. – 1 John 4:4 NLT
God, it’s easy to overlook the fact that I belong to You. Additionally, because of my relationship with You, I am victorious over everything that tries to hinder me. Holy Spirit, assist me in recognizing I am an overcomer, and You are able to keep me pure and unstained from the being defiled by the sinfulness of this world. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
3. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. – 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NLT
Father, I feel like troubles surround me, and I don’t know how to make it through. Help me remember You are with me and have not left me to fend for myself. Even if I get knocked down, Your Word says I will not be destroyed. In Your Son’s name, amen.
4. What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? – Romans 8:31 NLT
God, it is so simple for me to make my present problems the most important thing in my life. Lord, I find myself constantly telling You how big my issues are. Father, instead, help me to start telling my troubles, how big You are. Father, help me remain focused on the fact that You are for me and are working something out for me through this difficulty. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My victorious right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Lord, I’m scared that I won’t have enough strength to overcome my trial. God, You say You will strengthen me and help me when I go through hard times. Encourage me when everything about my situation is discouraging, and grant me the strength to persevere like Jesus does. In His name, amen.
6. No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. – Romans 8:37 NLT
God, it can be hard not to focus on everything going wrong in my life. Give me the ability to look past everything I am experiencing and know victory is mine simply because I am in a relationship with You. Lord, remind me of Your great love for me today and may it be the most memorable part of my day. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.
7. You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but You will restore me to life again and lift me from the depths of the earth. – Psalms 71:20 NLT
Lord, there are instances when life appears to be completely broken and chaotic. Lord, please teach me to recognize You can repair and renew everything. God help me to come up, and out of this valley I’ve been in. In the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
8. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. – 1 John 5:5 NLT
God, some days it feels like I’m in a war that will never end. Help me to remember that because I have faith in You, I will experience Your powerful victory in due time. May I reject a victim mindset and allow my thinking to be renewed in this area of my life. I pray all these things in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
