There is no denying that the current climate of our world could be described as simply unpredictable. No matter where you live you may be asking yourself and others around you, “What in the world is going on?” Many of us hope to go just one day without hearing of another tragedy. From the economy, to education, to public safety, it can seem as if there is simply no “good news” in sight.
However, as believers who are in the world but not of it, we know that no matter how much “bad news” comes out the Good News of the Gospel is still greater. There is hope. There is life. There is peace in the midst of chaos when we turn to God in prayer and trust in His faithfulness.
Here are 8 prayers to help us pray through and for current events.
1. I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. - 1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT
Heavenly Father, in a time when leadership decisions can feel so critical and fragile, we lift up our local, state, and federal officials. Many of us are deeply concerned about the state of our nation and the world, yet we trust that You remain in control. Strengthen these leaders to act with wisdom, courage, and integrity, even when the pressure feels overwhelming. Help us to trust Your hand over their decisions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
2. I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. - John 17:20-21 NLT
Lord Jesus, our hearts break when we see divisions within Your Church at a time when the world so desperately needs Your light. Help us overcome fear, pride, and differences that keep us apart. Unite us to boldly proclaim the Good News with compassion and love. May Your Church be a beacon of hope and healing for those who feel lost, afraid, and abandoned. In Your name, Amen.
3. Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. - Romans 12:17-18 NLT
Father, in a world filled with violence, war, and strife, we cry out for peace. We are weary of seeing the destruction and loss that conflicts bring, and we grieve for those caught in the crossfire. Comfort those who have lost loved ones, and bring an end to the hostilities that weigh heavily on our hearts. Grant wisdom to world leaders, and stir within them a desire to pursue peace. We trust that You are the Prince of Peace who can calm every storm. Amen.
4. And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19 NLT
Jesus, we feel the weight of financial uncertainty and the struggles of providing for our families in difficult times. Many of us feel stretched thin and unsure of what the future holds. Yet, we cling to the truth that You are our Provider. Remind us of Your faithfulness and fill our hearts with the peace that comes from trusting You. Help us to hold on to hope and to share generously with those who are in need. In Your name, Amen.
5. Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. 13 Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. - 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 NLT
Lord, we are so grateful for the pastors, ministry leaders, and spiritual mentors You’ve placed in our lives. We know that many of them are carrying heavy burdens as they seek to guide and encourage us in a time when hope can feel elusive. Strengthen them in their calling, renew their spirits, and protect their families. May they sense Your presence as they lead with integrity and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
6. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. - Proverbs 22:6 NLT
Father, we feel such concern for our children as they grow up in a world filled with confusion and challenges. We fear for their future, yet we trust that You love them even more than we do. Protect their hearts and minds from the lies of the enemy, and surround them with people who will point them toward You. Help us to be wise and faithful in teaching them Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
7. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! - Isaiah 61:3 NLT
Lord, in this season of turmoil, many of us feel anxious, overwhelmed, and even broken. The weight of past wounds and present uncertainties can be crushing. But we know that You are our Healer and our Source of peace. Help us fix our thoughts on You, trusting in Your unfailing love. Restore our minds and calm our hearts as we rest in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
8. So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. - Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT
Dear Jesus, we confess that fear often grips our hearts as we face the unknown. When the world feels unstable, it’s easy to feel helpless and afraid. But You remind us to be courageous, knowing that You walk before us. Fill us with bold faith to trust in Your promises, to stand firm in Your truth, and to move forward in confidence, knowing that You will never fail us. Amen.
