As Christians, we know that so many things can affect our marriages. We have to be careful in our daily lives to protect our marriages, but what about in a family dynamic? While our family lives can greatly impact our marriages, having a blended family can cause an even deeper tension that requires extra attention. Here are 8 prayers to pray for your marriage in a blended family.
1. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. – Romans 12:10 NLT
Lord, help me to seek unity in my marriage with my spouse. It’s difficult to prioritize our marriage after blending our families together. Guide us to continually love and honor each other through this process. May we seek You first as we continue to navigate through this time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love. – 1 John 4:18 NLT
Father, I’m honestly feeling a lot of fear through blending my family with my spouse’s. Please help us to work through these feelings. I admit it’s challenging to trust in You through this process. Guide me and my spouse to choose to put our faith in You instead of fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. – Ephesians 4:29 NLT
God, help my words be an encouragement to my spouse. Please guide my thoughts and what I say to my spouse when things are tense. I want to be helpful when times are tough, and may I lean on You always even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
4. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. – Proverbs 22:6 NLT
Lord God, thank You for being such a good Father. Being parents in a blended family can be challenging. Help us to train our children up in Your Word and Your ways. Guide us to keep our relationship a priority and look to You through this journey of guiding our family along the right path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
5. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. – Colossians 3:15 NLT
Heavenly Father, we’re thankful for the peace only You can provide. It sometimes feels like our lives are in chaos and it affects our marriage; please guide me and my spouse in Your peace in all circumstances. Help us to know that You are the ruler of our hearts in our family. In Jesus’ name, amen.
6. People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. – Proverbs 14:29 NLT
Lord, it’s easy to get frustrated at my spouse when our family dynamic is stressful. Help me to be slow in my anger when that feels like the only response. Guide me to be understanding towards my spouse no matter the circumstance. In Jesus’ name, amen.
7. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” – Matthew 6:34 NLT
God, sometimes my anxiety is crippling. My spouse and I need Your steadiness as we navigate through leading our blended family. Help us to focus on today and not worry about what tomorrow holds. Guide us to prioritize You as the ultimate guide for our family. In Jesus’ name, amen.
8. This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. – Genesis 2:24 NLT
Lord, I praise You for the gift of marriage. It is such a blessing, but it can also be a challenge. Help us to be a team and be united when leading our blended family. May we always seek unity with each other and our relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
