“After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: 'Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!'”  -2 Chronicles 20:21 (NLT)

In case you haven't figured it out yet, as Christians, we have a real enemy. Satan is constantly on the prowl, waiting to attack us spiritually, emotionally and, sometimes, physically. He is always attempting to sow seeds of division, confusion and doubt. He'll do anything to make us turn our backs on God. His attacks can be sudden, terrifying and perfectly brutal. So what can we, as believers, do about this vicious bully? We can fight back! We put up a good fight by using the tools God has given us to defeat the enemy. One of the most potent weapons we have in our arsenal is worship.

In 2 Chronicles 20, we learn King Jehoshaphat, the King of Judah, was attacked by a vast army made up of Israel's most feared enemies. King Jehoshaphat's immediate response was to turn to the Lord. At the king's leading, all of Judah began praying, seeking and worshiping God. They remembered God's faithfulness in the past and all the ways He had defended them against their cruelest enemies.

When the time came to engage the enemy, all of Judah's army began praising and adoring the Lord. Something powerful happened during their worship. God responded to their call and confirmed His presence on the battlefield. While they worshiped and prayed, the enemy fell into utter confusion and destroyed their own army. Worshiping God gave Judah the victory before the fight had even begun!

This story shows us when we are under the threat of spiritual attack, we must remember to turn to the Lord for help. When we begin praying, seeking and worshiping God, we are using the weapon of worship against our enemy. Praise allows us to recall all the things God has done in the past and how He has delivered us time and time again. Praise also allows us to remember His promises.

When we remember His past faithfulness and His future promises, we can confidently take our position on the battlefield in the present. We know worship confuses the enemy, giving us the victory and God the glory. My friends, this is how we fight our battles.
