Fruit of the Spirit: Kindness

The fruit of kindness is the Christ-like characteristic of behaving toward others as God has behaved toward them. It’s the idea of doing thoughtful deeds to others.

God, thank you for choosing me, setting me apart, and giving me new life through your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me today to live life in a way that honors you; To set aside my pride and walk-in humility. Give me the wisdom to know when to respond with a gentle heart and show kindness to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer For Colossians 3:12

“God has chosen you. You are holy and loved by Him. Because of this, your new life should be full of loving pity. You should be kind to others and have no pride. Be gentle and be willing to wait for others. “

Lord, you called me to love my enemies. I pray that you would give me the strength and the know-how to do this. I’m reminded in your Word that you were kind to those who were not. You showed love to those whom society said were unlovable. I pray that I would be your hands and feet to those around me so that people might come to know you through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer For Luke 6:35

“But love those who hate you. Do good to them. Let them use your things and do not expect something back. Your reward will be much. You will be the children of the Most High. He is kind to those who are not thankful and to those who are full of sin."

Heavenly Father, help me make a clean break from using cutting remarks and backbiting regardless of how justified I think they may be. Let me see others through your eyes. Give me your heart of compassion and kindness towards them. May I extend to them the same grace and forgiveness you have extended to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer For Ephesians 4:32

“You must be kind to each other. Think of the other person. Forgive other people just as God forgave you because of Christ’s death on the cross.”

God, I thank you for your underserved lovingkindness; For the reminder that I cannot earn, nor do I deserve your love, grace, and mercy. You have given it to me as a gift. It is by grace that I am in right standing with you. My sins are forgiven, and you have given me new life through your Holy Spirit. Lord, help me to extend that same loving-kindness, with the help of your Holy Spirit, to those I encounter this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer For Titus 3:4-5

“But God, the One who saves, showed how kind He was and how He loved us by saving us from the punishment of sin. It was not because we worked to be right with God. It was because of His lovingkindness that He washed our sins away. At the same time, He gave us new life when the Holy Spirit came into our lives.”

God, I find in your Word instructions on how I should live and behave. Help me to be a child of yours that is pleasing to you. Examine my heart and show me areas that are affected by pride and hatefulness. I know I have areas in my heart and mind that need to be transformed by You. I pray for your healing work, one that will change me to become more your Jesus. Amen.

A Prayer For Philippians 2:3-5

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”

O Lord, I pray for mercy today. I want to show your kindness. In my best efforts, I often come up short. I pray that You forgive me for my weakness and strengthen me to be kind like Jesus. Love is supposed to be kind, so I pray that You help me demonstrate lovingkindness to my wife at all times. I pray that my kindness toward her always points back to You, my Savior. Amen.

A Prayer For Corinthians 13:4-8

“Love is kind.”

Jesus, I’m reminded of the story in Scripture you shared about the good Samaritan. I pray that I will have the heart of a good Samaritan. Please give me the eyes to see opportunities. I pray for the courage to display Your kindness no matter how awkward or inconvenient the situation may be. I pray You to make me Your good Samaritan in this dark world. Amen.

A Prayer For Matthew 25:40

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

Heavenly Father, I read the words in Scripture, “make every effort.” They come directly before a list of attributes that Your children should have. I confess that these are things I fail at regularly. I want to have these qualities outlined in your Word. Please help me in the area of my kindness towards others. Reveal the people in my life who need your love and compassion. Change my heart, Lord. Make it more like Yours. Amen.
