“But let us who live in light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love,
and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NLT)
As the sun dipped below the horizon, a father and his young daughter embarked on a magical camping trip. Suddenly, a rustle in the bushes echoed danger. A wild coyote with large, fanged teeth emerged with a low growl. Instinctively, the father shielded his daughter, stood tall, and with a protective yell commanded, “Get out of here,” and watched as the coyote scampered off into the night.
God knows our need for protection. We find solace in the words of Paul, who wrote, “But let us who live in light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NLT). The daughter in the forest found safety in her father’s protective arms. Reflect on your own life. Who among your circle needs shielding by your love? Consider:
- A vulnerable daughter navigating the pressures of junior high.
- An anxious son, fueled by dreams of making the athletic team.
- An apprehensive teen battling peer pressure in high school.
- A mother, anxiously pondering how her son will fare in his first year of college.
- A friend in the storm of a tough marriage.
Sometimes, the triumph of our day lies in seizing opportunities to love and protect others. Let’s be the mothers, fathers, children and friends who embody a protective kind of love—something many people crave. Our world needs it!
“Sometimes the success of our day is achieved because we capitalize on the opportunities to love and protect others.”
Tip of the Day
Consider who might benefit from Your love. Pick a time to love them in a way that protects them. You might start by praying for them right now.
Prayer
Our Father, You have given us the ultimate protection by sending Your Son Jesus who died for all our sins and placed us in Your protecting arms forever. Thank You that no one can snatch us from Your tender, all-powerful hands. Help us to be a shield of love for others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Pause and Reflect
Reflect on a time when you felt protected by someone’s love. How did it impact you?
Who in your life needs love and protection? How can you be a source of support for them?
In what practical ways can you express love that provides a sense of protection to those around you?
