8 Prayers for Fall

Autumn brings so much to look forward to each year! The season invites us to gather, give thanks and celebrate God’s provision. Outside, it is a time of beauty and colorful change. So as we welcome the cooler days and sip that long-awaited pumpkin spice latte, why not slow down and take this chance to enjoy creation? Here are 8 prayers to help you connect with your Creator this season.

1. You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased. – Revelation 4:11 NLT

God our Creator, You do all things well, and the beautiful colors of fall are one small reflection of Your marvelous majesty and glory. You imagined this season and spoke it into existence. By Your word and power, all this came to be. There is no one like You, God! Thank You for making this wonderful world for me to live in.

2. Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, You are God. – Psalm 90:2 NLT

Father, as the leaves change, I am reminded of the things in my life that are not permanent. Some changes are exciting; others bring tough losses or fear of the unknown. Thank You for never changing. No matter what tomorrow brings, You are constant. Help me to cling to You when I am grieving or afraid. You are eternal, unchanging, and You will always be with me.

3. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. – Hebrews 12:1 NLT

Lord, as the autumn trees shed their leaves, I know I have some changes I need to make. First, there is sin weighing me down that needs to be stripped off. I’m sorry for sinning against You. Thank You, Jesus, for letting my sins fall on You so that I could be forgiven and set free. Help me be willing to let go of whatever hinders me from following You wholeheartedly.

4. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT

God, thank You for showing me Your will for me. In each and every season, help me grow in gratitude. No matter my circumstances, I know You have generously given me Your own Son and every spiritual blessing through Him. I am so grateful for that. Thank You for the good gifts You have given me in this life and for giving me eternal life in Christ.

5. Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. – Romans 15:7 NLT

Jesus, thank You so much for welcoming me to come to You even when I was undeserving. You willingly laid down Your own life to serve and bring me into Your family. You are the most precise picture of hospitality. Please help me to welcome and love others in the same way. As friends and families gather, I want to be generous and hospitable towards those around me. Use me and all You have blessed me to be a blessing and glorify You.

6. From His abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. – John 1:16 NLT

Father, in this harvest season, I am grateful for Your provision in my life. It is easy to focus on what I lack and feel discouraged. But You have sent Your Son for me, and from His fullness, He gives and gives, one blessing after another. So open my eyes to see the abundance of gifts I have in Him.

7. Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.” – John 6:35 NLT

Lord, thank You for the warmth and comfort of a delicious meal shared with loved ones. Even as I enjoy the food, I know I will be hungry again. But these meals point me to Jesus, the Bread of Life who came to nourish and strengthen my soul. He can give me eternal life and fullness that lasts. So when my heart is feeling empty and hungry today, teach me to come to You and find what I need.

8. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise You with songs of joy. – Psalm 36:5 NLT

Gracious God, You are my portion and the One who satisfies my soul. The things I enjoy in this life cannot compare to You, the Giver of those good gifts. Teach me to come to You and Your word hungry, like coming to a table prepared for a feast. As I spend time with You, help me to taste and see that You are good. Fill my heart with songs of joyful worship to You!
