5 Prayers for a Good Night

Has it been a while since you were able to get a good night's sleep? Sleep is the one thing we need every day to be able to function properly. Whether it's a medical issue that prevents you from getting enough sleep each night, or perhaps a plethora of diverse thoughts and feelings that keep you up at night. Here are five prayers you can pray over yourself to help you get a good night's sleep, regardless of what might be keeping you up at night.

1. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Lord, I've been attempting to calm my mind recently. Because of all the things I do each day, I've been experiencing anxiety that keeps me from falling asleep. Lord, please help me to remember that You have said that I should not worry about anything but rather pray and give You my problems. Jesus, please help me to remember to pray and lay things down at Your feet before I go to bed so that I can experience Your peace and Your rest. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2. Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

Father, sometimes I struggle to trust You with all the different things that I am caring each and every day. I feel the weight of those things hanging over my head when I try to lay down to sleep. Holy Spirit, remind me that I can give these things over to You and that when I do, the heavy burdens that I’m carrying become light. Let this become a continual response and heart posture of mine. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

3. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. - Psalm 4:8 NLT

God, sometimes I’m scared that when I go to sleep, something terrible might happen to me. I have so much fear before I go to bed that it just keeps me up all night long. Lord, help me to remember that according to Your Word, You will watch over me and protect me and keep me safe as I sleep. Holy Spirit, help me to remember this and enter into Your active peace and Your always available rest every night. In Jesus’ holy name, amen.

4. "So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today." - Matthew 6:34 NLT

Lord, it's so difficult to ignore these thoughts of the future and everything that might or might not occur. It keeps me up at night and I need to rest. Jesus, help me to remember that I can trust Your hand and Your provision in my life. Holy Spirit, help me to remember Jesus’ words that I don’t need to worry about tomorrow or the day after. In His name alone. Amen.

5. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” - John 14:27 NLT

Father, there are so many reasons in life to be concerned and full of anxiety. I have trouble remembering that You left me with the ability to experience peace of mind no matter what may be happening around me. I am so easily troubled by the things of this world. Lord, when I find myself overly aware of my circumstances, remind me that I just have to receive Your peace and enter into a place of rest. In the most precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
