(Aliquippa, PA) When Pastor Mike Sourwine arrived in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, he knew he wanted to make a difference.
Pastor Mike’s church, House of Prayer Lutheran Church, recently started an outreach initiative called the Little Free Food Truck.

Why do they do it?
“The church that I serve has a real big heart to get to know its neighbors better and care for the community,” says Pastor Mike.

Pastor Mike realizes that accepting free food can be complicated for some folks.
“We could talk for quite a while about the guilt and shame that’s associated with not being able to provide for your family…”

He also sees the food outreach as a way to bridge a divide and says, “Our church is largely white, but our community is largely black and we care about that and that matters to us.”

And it’s a way to “be” the Gospel. Pastor Mike explains, “Really, it’s a chance to tell people that they’re valued and that we love them because God loves us, and God loves them too.”
