The Bible explains that there truly is such a thing as “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” and Cindy Mullins, from Lincoln County, Kentucky, has without-a-doubt-in-her-mind experienced that.

Cindy is a wife, a mom, a nurse…and dramatically and unexpectedly has lost both her legs and hands.

“I can’t put my own Chapstick on,” is one of the simple things she is no longer able to do.

What happened?

Cindy was rushed to the hospital when a kidney stone condition became infected. That triggered sepsis, a sometimes-deadly inflammation where the body’s immune system overreacts. After days of treatment and being on a ventilator, Cindy awoke to another super serious situation. “The doctor that I work for was there and he explained to me what had happened, told me I was going to lose my legs the next day, and that I would lose my hands.” That sobering message had the potential to crush a patient hearing it, even for a medical professional like Cindy. But, for Cindy, not so. “I was at peace. I wasn’t angry. I wasn’t upset…I just felt this peace of God around me. I never had that experience before, or felt that – but I truly felt it and it was the most amazing feeling.”

Cindy's undeniable blessing from Christ overrode all the circumstances she was facing. And the peace he granted her, “comes from something more than you can ever explain…This was a feeling of just God wrapping his arms around me and telling me everything was going to be okay.”

Cindy’s strong faith and confidence in God – and in her future – have been shared by local media in the Lexington area. And Cindy and her husband, DJ, agreed to let us share this encouraging story nationwide, not to point to herself, but to her always trustworthy Jesus. “This isn’t a sad story. Yes, something bad happened, but you know, it’s a happy ending. I’m alive. I’m at home with my family. I’m going to get new arms and legs, and start a whole new life. And if you can’t see God in this, I would be so shocked, because I wouldn’t even be alive if it wasn’t for him. So, I really want people to see that through me – and if that leads somebody to their salvation, I would hope for nothing else.”

In our complete podcast interview, just below, Cindy shares more of her challenges with the medical crisis, her unexpected and amazing welcome home, and her continuing experience with God’s faithfulness!
