K-LOVE’s Positive People – by Rafael Sierra, Jr. (complete podcast available below) (more Positive People stories)
When Teresa Baur from Springfield. Oregon, noticed families asking for help getting diapers for their infants, God gently nudged her, to help these families out. So, she opened the Lane County Diaper Bank and started handing out diapers to families in need, free of charge.
“It was a mother, she was by herself and her baby was wearing a plastic bag as a diaper. She had no other options and didn’t know what else to do. So, the need in our community is real, and families are really being affected by it.”
“It seems like every single time I got into social media, I saw a family asking for diaper support and they had nowhere to turn,” says Teresa. “They’re saying, ‘I’m on my last diaper and I don’t know what I’m going to do,’ and it broke my heart.”
Teresa says it can cost upward of $80 per child for diapers and wipes so it can be very costly for families with multiple children. She says they often remind families not to be embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help; that they are here for them, ready to lend a helping hand.
And the results are rewarding! To date, they’ve given over 300,000 diapers to families in the community alone, and hope to keep blessing others in years to come.
"I just thank God every day for bringing this to my attention,” says Teresa. “I’m always praying for every single family that comes in here for God’s support and God’s love, for God’s uplifting. That their situation be different tomorrow that it is today and that our support will help them get there.”
