Louie Giglio is a respected pastor, author, speaker, and founder of the Passion Global Institute. In his years of service to the family of Christ, he has been a visionary, leader, and teacher. Lately, one of his concerns is about boys and girls in the tender and formative pre-teen years – especially with all the unanticipated life changes that the pandemic years brought.

In response, Pastor Louie’s book, Goliath Must Fall for Young Readers: Winning the Battle Against Your Giants, can provide children, as well as moms and dads, with encouragement straight from the Bible, and plenty of topics to talk about in a family setting. He uses the Bible’s perfect example of David’s stubborn faith and courage in responding to the gargantuan Philistine warrior Goliath. Pastor Louie points to challenges and distractions in our own lives that we may perceive as giants, or at least a lot bigger than we can tackle on our own.

Examples of these modern-day life giants

“The ones we highlight in the book are fear, rejection, anger, addiction, and comfort,” says Giglio. When he mentioned “comfort,” (hear it in our podcast) that seemed odd. But he explained, “Comfort is a sneaky giant.” Example: The Bible’s timeline tells when young David was daily bringing food to his much bigger brothers who were on the war zone’s front lines. Each day enemy army bully Goliath marched out insulting and challenging the warriors of Israel…and their God. But Israel’s supposedly bravest men refused to take on Goliath. A possible reason? Comfort. Security. “For 40 days they’ve been on a hillside, but they’re around a campfire. They’ve got a tent to sleep in. They’ve got a little brother who’s keeping the supply line going, so why would they want to risk that to go stand in front of this giant for God’s glory?” Pastor Louie warns that “sometimes comfort is the enemy, it’s a giant that keeps us from stepping out” – comfort, he cautions, can give us a false layer of security.

We invite you to listen to our podcast below for the complete interview with Pastor Giglio and hear many useful faith nuggets for young people (and those of us who raise them). There’s a very good chance you may see some giants of your own start to fall!
