Al and Shirley Weinstein of Stevensville, Michigan, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. The couple were married in Waukegan, Illinois, and then lived most of their married life in Berrien County.

How does a marriage and love last so long?

"Working together as one, having patience and serving each other with respect and kindness have been important factors for us. We both are committed to loving each other, to loving God, and serving Him.”

“We both believe God is first in our lives and attending church. It’s a priority for us.” - Shirley Weinstein, 89

“I’ve been blessed by how kind and caring she (Shirley) has been to me. We have never really argued. We try to work together, help each other every day. “

“It’s been very important for us to keep God first and going to church.”

“Being married means to be fully committed to each other, regardless of the situation. We have been firmly committed to each other. “ - Al Weinstein, 92

They are the parents of four children and they have two grandchildren. Children include Bryon (the late Val Weinstein) of Warsaw, Indiana; Tim (Trish) of Lindsey, Ohio; Mark (Lisa) of Fairborn, Ohio, and Karre (Jeff) Smith of Stevensville. Grandchildren are Megan Steinke of Rockford, Michigan (Zachary Wamser, fiancee), and Alyssa Steinke of Stevensville.

Al, a graduate of Coloma High School, served in the Navy Reserve for eight years and spent his professional career at Whirlpool Corporation, beginning as a laborer in Benton Harbor and as a process engineer for 20 years in Clyde, Ohio. Shirley, a graduate of Waukegan High School, was a stay-at-home mom for a large portion of her life before working at The Gift Horse Hallmark store in Fremont, Ohio and then, after moving back to Stevensville, at Meskimen’s in St. Joseph.

The Weinsteins were long-time members of Napier Parkview Baptist Church in Benton Harbor and are now members at Berrien County Baptist Church in Stevensville.
