LONG OVERDUE BOOKS RETURNED TO MASS. LIBRARY
SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) — It's another case of someone returning some overdue books to a library. Make that returning some seriously long overdue books.
Bob Alvarez of Methuen, Massachusetts says he found the books in a wooden box in the attic of his family's home in Somerville as it was being sold in 2010. He took the box to his home and didn't sift through it until June. Turns out it held books that were checked out of the Somerville Public Library in the 1920s and 30s.
Alvarez contacted the library to tell them about the tardy books — and asked about late fees. He caught a break; the library says it stopped charging late fees as of July 1.
