This is a miracle story.
Yesterday was sunny in Nashville. It’s been that way since Easter Sunday morning. But in the early evening, clouds gathered and a very brief rain fell, minutes at most. Even then, the sun never stopped shining.
At the same time, the families of Covenant School were meeting for the very first time since the act of hate that took place at their school three weeks earlier. Covenant families – all of them – choosing to reclaim their school and building and land because of their trust in Jesus!
And so they met at the school and worshipped the Creator. They publicly declared their trust and faith in Him, that though this world be dark and getting darker, His light will always win, always prevail. He is the only way out of this place we call home, the only way to our eternal life with Him. Forever. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him.
The Covenant families declared that yesterday.
Then, as they were about to enter the building, they saw this.
Yesterday’s double rainbow lit up the sky for only a few minutes, all while the sun shone. But it happened at the exact time when the Covenant families were entering the school building. A double rainbow that spanned from one side of the school to the other.
Listen to this from the Bible:
“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the COVENANT between me and the earth. I will remember my COVENANT between me and you and all living creatures of every kind.” – Genesis 9:16.
No way you can make this stuff up, friends. The rainbow is – and always will be – God’s covenant sign between Himself and us.
By the way, the outpouring of love here in Nashville toward Covenant has been breathtaking. Yes, we mourn and grieve the loss of life and innocence. We always will. But we stand strong. We remain. And get this – something you will not hear on the news - a number of Covenant families anonymously pulled together to pay for the shooter’s funeral.
Because Jesus says, “Love your enemies”.
Take a minute. Breathe. Look out at the sky. God is for you. He is for the families at Covenant. And He gave them a double rainbow yesterday to prove it.
