Jeanice Lee talks to Brian Richter, Assistant V.P., Community Partnerships of Special Olympics Southern California San Diego and Imperial Counties. Special Olympics provides free sports training and competitions for children/adults with intellectual disabilities with the goal to not only provide physical fitness but helping people build self-confidence, friendships, and social skills. Richter says Special Olympics is not a once-a-year event, but a yearly sports program for anyone of any age. Teams meet weekly to practice then the athletes compete locally and then they move into chapter (championship) games. They have great partnerships with schools Volunteer and coaches needed.
