LOCAL Closer Look: Mayor of Ripley, WV, Carolyn Rader - Ripley, WV

Posted on Sunday, December 5, 2021 by Sarah Shaver

Sarah Shaver chatted with Carolyn Rader, Mayor of Ripley, West Virginia. Mayor Rader said Ripley is the Jackson County seat and occupies an excellent position geographically, with proximity to the state’s major cities and universities and the home of America’s largest small-town Independence Day celebration. Mayor Rader said Ripley is a quintessential small town where people care and she related a story about sitting to talk to a resident who just needed someone to talk to after a difficult period in their life. Rader talked about current plans including a new sewer plant, land bought for business development, Jackson County schools and Hospital, shopping local, and new local businesses. Rader said one on one communication between Ripley city government and citizens is so important that she works on Sunday afternoons and residents and visitors can stop in to chat. Ripley is fast becoming The City of Parades and one of those parades is a chance to see the Mayor dressed as a blue chocolate candy.
