Peter Kaye speaks with Valerie Brown of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westchester and Putnam about the impact mentoring makes on both the mentor (big) and the mentee (little). Brown explains how matches are made and what a positive mentoring relationship looks like in the day to day. She contrasts the community-based mentoring program with the site-based program held at the child’s school. Brown draws for her experience of nearly a decade with Big Brothers Big Sisters to share real life stories of impact on both the littles and the bigs. Brown expresses the need for male bigs as many of the kiddos don’t have a male role model.
