4 Questions to Ask Before You Quit Your Job

Right now, some of you are deeply dissatisfied at work and might be considering quitting your job.

I want to help you discern if that’s your next best move or possibly talk you off the ledge.

Sometimes, quitting your job is the right call. When you have a strategic plan to step into your calling in a new job—do it. Or, if you need to leave a continuously challenging environment, it might be time to make the switch.

But more often than not, extenuating circumstances, outside pressures, and solvable problems are persuading you to quit.

Today, we’ll get really practical with the four questions you’re wise to ask before you quit your job. And in the leader guide, you’ll find all the notes and questions from the episode. I’d encourage you to walk through it carefully if you’ve been on the verge of quitting.

If you aren’t considering quitting your job personally, odds are someone you work with is. If you want to help them process their best next step, these four questions will help.

Next month, we’ll continue by looking at three employee “wants” and how leaders can focus on the one that will help build a team no one wants to leave.

In the meantime, it’s bonus time! On October 20, we’ll talk with Vanessa Van Edwards, the founder of Science of People, and learn how hand gestures, voice tone, and other cues all play a huge part in how we communicate as leaders. (She gave me some feedback that I’m already incorporating into my teaching!)

Until then, don’t quit. Keep stretching and growing as a leader. Because everyone wins when the leader gets better.
