"I got to experience a little bit of heaven on earth. Being in a room full of people worshipping and singing was like nothing else."
(LYNCHBURG, VA) - Daniel Spinney is still in awe of a recent move of God on campus at Liberty University. Daniel, a third-year religious studies student, says he doesn't usually see more than 10 people inside of the campus prayer chapel at any given time.
"Any student is welcome to go in there and just pray, read the Word and reflect. The office of Spiritual Development, or OSD, had it on their hearts to organize a 24 hours of prayer and worship that was open to the entire student body of Liberty," Daniel shared.
But something very unexpected - and very appreciated - took place.
Rather hear the story?
What was it like?
Daniel shares, "when we got there, there was a line out the door which I've never seen at the prayer chapel before. There were so many people that were there...that couldn't even fit inside the chapel to where they started worshipping and praying outside on the lawn, in front of the chapel...it was like 30 degrees outside but they were undeterred."
Once inside, Daniel says, "it was like something I've never experienced before. There were so many people in there to where when we were singing, we were singing so loud that we couldn't even hear the microphones and the worship collective singing through the speakers. The voices of the people in the room were just overpowering the microphones."
The professor in charge encouraged the students to put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) so that they would be spiritually protected as they began to pray for others.
"Personally, I prayed for friends and family and I'm also on hall leadership in my building. I'm an RA (resident advisor), so I prayed for students on my hall, people who I know are unsaved...it was really more personal to who you felt led to pray for," Daniel shared.
"In the end (the amount of students attending), it was definitely well into the hundreds, it could have even been thousands. When I was there, there was probably close to 300 people."
How has this experience changed Daniel and his friends?
