While in Cincinnati to discuss a major bridge project supported by federal funding, President Biden got lunch to go at Just Q’in BBQ in the Walnut Hills neighborhood. He was accompanied by Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval and Senator Sherrod Brown.
Even though the order for his entourage was all bagged and ready to go, the president stuck around to sample some peach cobbler and chat with the restaurant manager, employees, and customers.
Just Q’in’s slogan is “Faith.Love.BBQ.” and the letter t in the eatery’s name is a Christian cross. That’s because the barbeque restaurant is Christian-owned. Their web site also makes it clear that they are a “Fair Chance” employer and “welcome applicants who’s work history has been interrupted by incarceration or other barriers to successful employment.” There’s also a Bible verse included, 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” The web site also has a tab for prayer requests.
“Love - We are a for-profit social enterprise that hires, develops and trains individuals with barriers to employment. We love on them in every aspect of their lives so they in turn love on you.”
If you’re curious what the president ordered, local media reports he chose brisket, potato salad, jalapeno cornbread, mac & cheese, and the slightly evasive cobbler.
