New Song Feature: "Creed" Shane & Shane

Shane & Shane add their signature harmonies to a Rich Mullins classic on their new recording of “Creed.” The faith-affirming track opens the duo’s “Vintage, Vol. 2,” the full-length follow-up to 2020’s first installment of handpicked CCM staples that influenced both Shane Barnard and Shane Everett’s respective relationships with Jesus.

“Rich Mullins and his song, ‘Creed,’ profoundly shaped our faith journey. This song reminds us of the unchanging foundation of our faith. While feelings and time may shift, our belief in God remains eternal. He is our firm foundation,” the Shanes collectively state. “‘Creed’ and the songs that made their way onto ‘Vintage, Vol. 2’ are some of the first songs that connected us to the love of God and point us back to the legacy of our faith.”

An anchor selection in Mullins’ catalog, “Creed” was the star of 1993’s “A Liturgy, A Legacy & A Ragamuffin Band.” From the first unmistakable notes played on the hammer dulcimer, “Creed” swiftly became an anthem of belief as Mullins set the Apostles’ Creed to music. Mullins’ impact on Shane & Shane — both musically and spiritually — is vast, as the worship outfit previously put their stamp on Mullins’ “Awesome God” and “Sometimes By Step” on their original “Vintage” endeavor four years ago.

In addition to “Creed,” “Vintage, Vol. 2” finds the longtime friends covering Amy Grant’s “Thy Word,” dc Talk’s “In the Light” and Robbie Seay Band’s “Beautiful Scandalous Night,” among other CCM favorites.

As co-founders of The Worship Initiative, the Texas-based musicians continue to resource the Church with relevant songs of praise, often reimagining hymns and former hits in the hopes an entirely new generation will claim them as their own.

Earlier this year, Shane & Shane brought their original single, “You’ve Already Won,” to the Worship in the Round event, which kickstarted Saturday morning’s full day of festivities during the 11th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards Weekend.

On Aug. 8-9, 2024, they’ll take their popular “Sing the Psalms” set to the nation’s capital for a two-night residency at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
