Singer-songwriter Ryan Ellis is waiting on “Better Days,” and his new song is what synth-pop dreams are made of. The vibey confessional acknowledges both sorrow and blessing in the same breath as Ellis believes for breakthrough across some rhythmic verses and a slow-burning chorus.
The California native actually never intended to release the gratitude-filled selection that beautifully holds the tension of our natural human tendencies and God’s tender mercy, but after posting the demo on socials and watching how people responded, he decided to officially drop the recording. The convicting single opens his sophomore set, “Real Love,” a 10-track collection that explores the art of surrendering to the Lord’s perfect timing. A demo version and a remix with hip-hop artist Anike have also surfaced.
“I think the conversation we always have with ourselves is what’s going wrong, what I’m not doing right; and the counter to that is gratitude, it’s affirmations, it’s being thankful. So I think that’s the duality of just who I am and who I feel like a lot of people might be. It’s just fighting with those demons every day, but then having the words to kind of fight back with,” Ellis shares of the message behind the fresh offering. “This one’s for anyone who’s been through the fire and still kept the faith. God’s been good — even on the hard days.”
