Film Impact: The Chosen

Voters named “The Chosen” the 2024 Film Impact recipient at the 11th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards. The win marked the third time the popular series has taken home a trophy in this category. Additionally, complimentary documentary “Jonathan & Jesus” — chronicling the life and career of “Chosen” lead Jonathan Roumie — also earned a golden ‘K’ in the first-ever TV/Streaming Impact bracket.

Roumie, who continues to garner critical praise for his portrayal of Jesus, his co-star Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene) and series creator and director Dallas Jenkins were in attendance at the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the cast and crew of “The Chosen.”

During his acceptance speech, Jenkins shared that seven-plus years ago he didn’t know if he’d ever make another movie or TV series again following a professional failure. A friend, however, reminded him of a biblical principle he’s not only brought to life on “The Chosen” but also one he’s applied to his own life: You’re not responsible for feeding the 5,000; you’re only responsible for bringing the loaves and fish.

Choosing to also delicately address the current conflict in Israel from the podium, Jenkins observed, “We are a Jewish show,” before directly speaking to the people of Israel, adding: “We stand with you, and we kneel for you.” His bold proclamation was met with a resounding standing ovation in the sold-out Grand Ole Opry House.

Poised for a total of seven seasons, “The Chosen” is the first multiseason series of its kind; a groundbreaking historical drama about the life of Jesus, as seen through the eyes of those who knew Him best. A global phenomenon, the series has amassed more than 520 million episode views worldwide. “The Chosen” remains free through its mobile and TV apps, thanks to the generous donations of fans from countries all around the world.

Season 4 premiered in theaters nationwide in February. Ever since, fans have eagerly awaited its streaming debut. The first episode is slated to release as a livestream event across the series’ official social media channels, as well as on its app on Sunday, June 2, at 7 p.m. ET.
