Breakout Single of the Year: Seph Schlueter

First-time nominee Seph Schlueter (pronounced “shleeter”) took home a golden ‘K’ for Breakout Single of the Year at the 11th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards thanks to his original song, “Counting My Blessings.” The surprise hit continues its run on the Christian radio charts on the strength of a hefty dose of thankfulness as the newcomer tallies all the ways he’s experienced God’s goodness in his life.

“Gratitude is such a universal thing. There’s so much to be grateful for,” Schlueter told K-LOVE morning DJs Carlos and Amy on the red carpet ahead of the show, where his award-winning song was in good company with the likes of other Breakout Single contenders, including Terrian’s “Big God,” Stephen McWhirter’s “Come Jesus Come,” Forrest Frank’s “Good Day,” Caleb & John’s “Hallelujah Feeling” and Josiah Queen’s “The Prodigal.”

Earlier in the weekend, the burgeoning singer/songwriter was a part of the lineup alongside many of his fellow nominees for the Emerging Artist Showcase, hosted by Brandon Heath. Reflecting on his first K-LOVE Fan Awards experience, he shared, “Had an absolute blast of a time at the K-LOVE Fan Awards. So incredibly encouraged, inspired and blessed by all that God is doing in Christian music, and so honored to be part of it all and meet so many amazing people! Thanks, Jesus, for this amazing life.”

Schlueter spent years as a missionary before writing his song about the elusive sum of God’s blessings. Additionally, while originally honing his craft as an independent act, he had the opportunity to open for artists like Phil Wickham and Natalie Grant before he signed with a major label and released his introductory radio offering. “Counting My Blessings” has literally made its way around the globe becoming a viral sensation in Brazil, where it was even recorded by another artist in Portuguese.

The Ohio-based musician and his wife just announced their biggest blessing to date — the upcoming birth of their first child — due December 2024.
