As we barrel toward summertime, Ryan Stevenson’s new song, “Just As You Are,” will undoubtedly soundtrack everything from backyard barbecues to road trips with friends. The breezy jam is as light and unfettered as Stevenson’s vocals on the fresh track.

“Just As You Are” hints at a new project coming down the pike from the singer/songwriter and reminds listeners they don’t have do anything to earn God’s love; they are simply loved just as they are.

The song’s message was inspired by a quote from Brennan Manning, author of “The Ragamuffin Gospel,” that says, “God loves you, just as you are, not as you should be; because none of us are as we should be.”

“That was a profound statement for me,” Stevenson says of the quote, “and one that has since shaped my perspective about God, as well as the way I perceive others.”

As for the airy sonic palette that backs his fun-to-sing lyrics, he shares, “As Chris [Stevens, producer] and I were reminiscing about summertime grooves from our college days together, it felt like a no brainer to let the joy out; to create music that not only has an amazing feel, but also a deep, meaningful message. I believe the Lord has given me confidence and an assurance to share the music and sounds that move me most. This is the music I’ve wanted to put out for 12 years, and I finally feel the release to do it!”

In contrast to the bright pop of “Just As You Are,” Stevenson has also premiered a piano and string-led ballad called “Rich,” which features ’90s country sweetheart Deana Carter.

Stevenson will strip down his new songs, as well as old favorites, for the “Gospel Nights Unplugged” tour this summer as he continues to ready his next studio effort.
