Katy Nichole’s swift trajectory to the top can only be described as one of the fastest ascents in Christian music memory. Smashing records at breakneck speed with the launch of her debut single, “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” Nichole has become one of the biggest breakout success stories of the past year. Her TikTok hit took home Worship Song of the Year at the 2022 K-LOVE Fan Awards. Soon after, the 21-year-old unveiled her second single, “God Is In This Story,” a duet with Mike Weaver of Big Daddy Weave. Both tracks can be found on her self-titled debut EP. This fall, she’ll share her acclaimed songs with audiences across the country on the “I Still Believe Tour” with Jeremy Camp before ringing in the holiday season on the 2022 K-LOVE Christmas Tour alongside Crowder, Matt Maher and Jordan St. Cyr.

The newcomer recently sat down for an exclusive round of “21 Questions” with KLOVE.com to talk her whirlwind year, where she finds inspiration and why she thinks Dolly Parton hung the moon.
K-LOVE: Three artists who inspire you?
Katy Nichole: Dolly Parton, Carly Pearce and Kari Jobe.
K-LOVE: Last song you listened to?
Katy Nichole: “Always Holding On” by Brandon Lake
K-LOVE: Favorite meal?
Katy Nichole: Mac & cheese or cheese quesadilla.
K-LOVE: Why prayer is so important to your spiritual life?
Katy Nichole: Because if you don’t talk to God, it’s hard to have a relationship with God. So prayer is very important.
K-LOVE: Favorite thing to do on a day off?
Katy Nichole: I like to go outside…unless it’s hot, like stained-armpit hot, then I don’t.
K-LOVE: Artist you’d be super nervous to meet?
Katy Nichole: Dolly Parton. That woman is a saint.
K-LOVE: Your first thought when “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” went No. 1?
Katy Nichole: I was in awe of how God was using the song and just the way it was impacting people.
K-LOVE: Most memorable fan moment to date?
Katy Nichole: This group of little girls came up to me after a concert and said, “Can we hug you?” We all group hugged, and it was so cute!
K-LOVE: Favorite Bible verse?
Katy Nichole: It always changes, because I have so many, but right now it’s probably Ephesians 3:20, which says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
K-LOVE: Dream destination you’d love to travel to?
Katy Nichole: Probably Australia or New Zealand. I’ve heard both places are just super beautiful.
K-LOVE: One book that changed your perspective?
Katy Nichole: Everybody, Always by Bob Goff
K-LOVE: One thing that has surprised you most about touring?
Katy Nichole: It was kind of surprising to find out, oh, I don’t have as much energy as I thought I did, because I’m always exhausted by the end of a tour. Also, just how hectic and crazy traveling can be with flights cancelling and stuff like that.
K-LOVE: New artist you can’t stop listening to?
Katy Nichole: An artist named Stephen Day. (He’s new to me!)
K-LOVE: One thing people might not know about you?
Katy Nichole: I’m an Enneagram 7, Wing 8, which means I’m just spontaneously aggressive sometimes.
K-LOVE: Person you love following on TikTok?
Katy Nichole: Cory Asbury, because you just never know what you’re gonna get from that man.
K-LOVE: Song you wish you’d written?
Katy Nichole: There’s a good amount of songs I wish I’d written because they’re just so good, but if I had to pick, I’d choose “Jolene” by Dolly Parton or “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves.
K-LOVE: Place you find creative inspiration?
Katy Nichole: Not my bedroom, ‘cause it’s a mess. Probably outdoors in a park. It’s easy to be inspired outside.
K-LOVE: One thing you wish someone had told you before your song blew up on TikTok?
Katy Nichole: I wish I would’ve known to prepare a bit more. The opportunities have been great, but it’s all a little crazy.
K-LOVE: Best part of being a new artist in Christian music?
Katy Nichole: Honestly, just being a part of this incredible group of Christian artists and getting to call them my peers is so cool! These are people I’ve looked up to, and being surrounded by them is just so wonderful.
K-LOVE: Last concert you attended that wasn’t your own?
Katy Nichole: John Mayer
K-LOVE: Most important lesson you’ve learned in the last six months?
Katy Nichole: To be present in the moment. With every opportunity and experience I have, just to be fully present and intentional in the room I’m in.
