Emerging from California's sun-drenched shores in the early 90s, Dakoda Motor Co. wasn't your typical CCM band. They revved up a unique blend of alt-rock, blues, and gospel, injecting a shot of soulful grit into the faith-based music scene.
Led by the powerhouse vocals of Davia Vallesillo (later Melissa Brewer) and the masterful guitar work of Peter King (a pro surfer and MTV personality!), Dakoda Motor Co.'s music resonated with a raw authenticity that resonated with listeners yearning for something real. Their songs tackled themes of faith, doubt, and redemption with an honesty that transcended genre labels.
Their 1993 debut, "Into the Sun," propelled them onto the national stage with hits like "Sondancer" and "Grey Clouds." With Davia's soaring vocals and Peter's bluesy riffs, the album painted a picture of a journey towards faith, fueled by hope and resilience.
Their follow-up, "Welcome Race Fans," in 1994, solidified their place as a force to be reckoned with. Singles like "Trip to Pain" and "Truth" further cemented their sound and built a dedicated fan base.
