It is Workout Wednesday and the lesson for today is "Baby Steps". If it's been awhile since you have worked out, you can't be afraid to start. It can be intimidating at first but if you take the first step you are already making progress. If you're having trouble on where to start, here are a few ideas.
Flexibility:
Start by preparing your body for working out by working on your flexibility. A good way to start is to choose 10-15 different stretches that target different areas of the body and spend about a minute working each one of them.
Cardio:
Increasing your heart rate is a big part of working out and simple cardio is a great place to start. You can start by taking a hike with the kids, an extra walk or two with the dog or hopping on the treadmill, bike or elliptical when you are at the gym.
Strength Training:
You may think that you don't need to strength train, but research proves that it is essential to your fitness goals and overall health. You don't have to go all Hans and Frans, but start with doing body weight exercises. You don't need a gym to get stronger, spend time working different body parts with exercises like squats, lunges, push ups and ab exercises.
Remember you don't have to get so sore that you can't move the next day to get in an effective workout. Remember "Baby Steps"!
